What Is Photobiomodulation Laser Therapy? (PBMT)

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) therapy is an innovative treatment for non-invasive pain management. The therapeutic use of light is absorbed by the chromophores in the body to stimulate non-harmful reactions within a living cell. This response to infrared light results in a beneficial physiological and biochemical outcome for the surrounding structures and tissues.

Benefits of Light Therapy

Physiological EffectsBiochemical Effects
Strengthens muscle, tendons and ligament attachmentsIncreases Serotonin Levels which is a neurotransmitter which helps to modulate pain response
Muscle RelaxationIncrease in production of endogenous opioids
Decrease in Nerve SensitivityImpedes production of GABA which is a chemical responsible for the inhibition of pain controlling receptors
Promotes an overall less painful status of patientIncreases the production of Dopamine which in turn signals the pleasure center of the brain.
Reduces InflammationVasodilation –opening of the blood vessels
Reduces Swelling /EdemaActivates the Lymphatic drainage system
Promotes Faster Healing TimesIncreased Cellular Proliferation
